There are multiple archived postings on this subject. Many, many people have used 50-foot CAT5 cable without a problem, me included. I agree with Matt's guess that you could probably go to 75 or 100 feet and get it to work. I would lean toward a high-quality CAT5 cable, i.e. Belkin, in that configuration instead of buying the cheaper no-name stuff.
