I was hesitant because of the price initially. I decided to try it and now I recommend it to all my friends. I do watch more tv but I watch things that are iteresting. Tivo is the service and the hardware is sold by Phillips (very ergonomic remote), Sony, panasonic, etc. the hardware will act like a vcr on a harddrive without the subscription. The Tiov service allows you to pick a program say the Simpsons and record it. It doesn't matter what time or channel it is because Tivo takes care of all that. You setup a season pass and it will record every episode of it automatically. Another nice feature is if a show goes off the air for the summer season tivo continues to look for it and will record it when it comes on again. The pausing of live tv is indespensible. It records a rolling 30 minutes of live tv so you can pause and then get back to the action. Try it, you can always return it.
