You can even do it with slinkserv. I've setup my system with cdj installed on a bunch of machines and run it from where I want.

Have a look at the cdj help under :-

The SlinkX ActiveX control->Using Dcom

Rather than write an application, I just use cdj to control it.

I do cheat a bit. I always run cdj on the machine with the slink-e. So, the other machines never write to the database. Seems to work for me.
