Alternating playlist problems

On both the 9/8 and the 9/14 CDJ, I have problems with the alternating player function on CDJ.
I have a playlist with many tracks from both player 1 and player 2. I can randomize the list just fine. But when I hit the "optimize" button that used to alternate the player order, I get one of two results:
1> The list is somewhat interleaved, but not optimized - e.g., P1, P2, P1, P2, P1, P1, P2, P1, P1, P2, P1, P2, ...
2> The list is not interleaved at all up front, and it not optimized - e.g., P2, P2, P2, .... Can anybody help?
