Slink-e / CDJ Discussion Archive #6 Re: Opcode SONICportPosted By: sgs <speckerns@l...> In Response To: Opcode SONICport (Gautam Desai)
I thought Opcode's SONICport USB digital audio interface looked interesting. I never got around to buying one, though, because I couldn't find one locally. Recently I saw mention of Opcode's financial troubles. The note referenced this article: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Monitor/6454/ I just received a Zoltrix digital soundcard today that I purchased through the mail. While I couldn't find this locally, either, it cost a total of $30(US). $15 for the analog/digtal-SPDIF card and another $15 for the optional optical in/out board. I read a short review on this, again from the MD page: http://www.minidisc.org/zoltrix.html I plugged my new card in about an hour ago. I probably won't get a chance to play with the digital signals tonight ... WISHFUL THINKING: I sent a note to Colby asking if he'd ever thought about making a USB interface card for the DXS. This would act similar to the SONICport but be fully integrated with the DXS. The other advantage is that your PC could interface with both optical and coax digital signals. Opcode's boxes were either one or the other (at least they were the last time I looked). One additional advantage of a USB DXS module over SONICport would be that you can have a lot more digital in/out ports verses the limited number on the Opcode box.
