I actually have a similar reason for sorting my CD's in the CD players. I sort them by language: English, Dutch, other languages, but also classical, musicals, opera or children's music. General alphabetical sorting would mix all genres. This would make it difficult for my guests to make a quick selection within certain genres. So I sort them using the location in the players.

I would think that a solution could be to have the ability to add a specific category to each CD and then have the possibility to sort first on the category and as a second sorting key alphabetically. This could also solve the issue that, when sorting the CD's on their location, the CD list starts with showing all the CD's that currently do not have a fixed slot anymore in any CD player, but that I do not want to delete.
