Does your laptop have an IR port? . I had nothing but trouble with them. Suddenly the IR receivers on every equipment would get flooded, and we couldn't figure out why. One day when the repeater got flooded, I swore and put the laptop down, and my wife said "When you put the laptop down, the repeater LED stopped glowing." Anyway after 2 years of cussing, now I have black electrical tape (double layered) on the IR ports of every laptop in the house. The problem has not resurfaced for 8 months now..... FWIW..
