Sony TMR-IA10??

I recently bought a CDP-CX88ES on close-out from the Good Guys and along with the manual and remote (which themselves were unlikely finds for a close-out piece), the changer included a Sony device with model number TMR-IA10. The device has two Control-A1 ports (labeled so), an IR window, and a single, latched push-button on top labeled "Operate".
Anyone know what this thing is?? Some sort of demo aid for retailers?
