IR Transmitter Module Problems

I tried to relocate and wall mount my IR Transmitter across the wall frm my slink-e. I used cat-5 cable but was unable to get it to work using EZ learn. Since I did not want to use the modular plug on the module side, I connected the wires directly. Red-Red and Black-Black. The RJ-45 connector on the slink-e side was still used. Is there any way to test the module with a Volt meter, etc. The diodes seam to check out, (I get voltage in one direction, black to red, but not in the other). Using diode setting on a fluke 87. The resitor reads 10.3 ohms. Do you feel its, slinke config, software config or module problems?
