I was headed in the same direction as Brooks ripping all my Cds into mp3s. I am now using the MusicMatch jukebox for ripping (which utilizes the Xing technology). Have you tried the new VBR. I have yet to listen to my files through my high end stereo but only through some nice PC speakers ($250). I just don't want to waste a lot of time on it if it is not going to sound ok.
