Slink-e / CDJ Discussion Archive #4 Re: AutomationPosted By: Jim Varrone <jvarrone@g...> In Response To: Re: Automation (Colby Boles)
Thanks for the response. Sorry my posts must have been confusing, I'm *not* looking to control CDJ by slot location. The ultimate goal is to have several Xantech keypads throughout the house. If someone wanted to "queue up" a few disks to play, all they would have to do is enter the disk numbers on the keypad. My interface would create a playlist and add the entries to it. They would also be able to delete the entries, save the playlist, etc, etc. I've already built a basic interface that opens up the CDJ library and allows the user to select the disk by it's position in the database. It's just easier for a program to select a disk from a keypad by entering numerics. As you know, disks in the database are ID numbered 1 - n, where n is the total number of disk entries in the database. Currently, my interface retrieves the CDJID number from the database and sends it over to CDJ via Slink-x. However, if CDJ will change this position (the ID), I'll have to select another approach. Is it true CDJ may re-order the entries thus changing the ID? If so, I like your approach to using a local recordset. The only problem is keeping the local recordset up to date. As far as knowing the position in the database, that's why I asked if you could add the capability to put the ID number in the library window. Great product Colby, looking forward to the next update with hopefully some of the additional automation commands.
