Slink-e / CDJ Discussion Archive #4 Re: AutomationPosted By: Colby Boles <cboles@n...> In Response To: Automation (Jim Varrone)
Sorry. I've become somewhat of a passive listener as I try to get things done these days. I'd be willing to add some optional confirmation responses. I'm still not sure why you want to play things by disc and track, or as you mention more recently, by entry number in the database. How do you know what (if anything) is there? From the CDJ database? If so, use the CDDB ID instead. How will CDJ know if the right disc is playing? Same problem... The bottom line is that CDJ just doesn't work on the basis of slot locations and so it is awkward to add such a feature to the interface. Ultimately it does send a command to a player to play a disc in a specific slot, but this happens only at the lowest level and is hard to expose in the automation interface. If you really want to just have a player play a certain slot and track, you can just just send out the single S-Link command to do so. The same is true for referencing by entry in the CDJ database. CDJ can be adding, deleteing or re-arranging the order of these at any time, so it's an unreliable method. I can't imagine why it would be much harder to send the CDDBID once you have the entry number in a local recordset. To meet it would seem to add about 1 line of code if that.
