Slink-e / CDJ Discussion Archive #4 Re: Whole House Audio & TV ControlPosted By: Dan Butterfield <dan@b...> In Response To: Re: Whole House Audio & TV Control (Darren Apfel)
I'm gradually working towards incorporating CDJ into my house automation setup via a simplified user interface. My goal is to do this as cheaply as possible using an old 486-66 system I have, plus an old Creative Labs TVCoder VGA-to-NTSC converter. I have a X-10 CM11A module connected to this machine today, and I want to also connect the Slink-e (which is currently connected to a separate machine on the LAN), so I can use one interface to do X-10 automation and Slink-e automation. I haven't actually run CDJ on this machine yet, but hope it won't run too slow. The interface I'm planning is simple and very specific to my needs, primarily catering to an easy (e.g. usable by spouse) way to launch various play lists in shuffle mode with the press of a single button on a remote (I already have multi-room IR/video/speaker distribution), and display the currently playing song info. I would second the other requests I've seen for a general ability to query song info in the play list, so I could display the next song to play for example. Other than some problems I've had getting CDJ to *send* IR (which I think are due to my IR distribution mechanism and to some of my devices not having easily learnable IR codes), everything I've done to test the various portions of this setup and use with CDJ seem to indicate all the needed features are there to do this in a straight-forward fashion! Fortunately, many of the devices I want to control (Sony CD players, Sony VCR, Marantz multi-room receiver) can be done via wire rather than IR. - Dan Butterfield (dan@butterfields.net)
