The current documentation says that you can use event mapping "Using a remote control to select and control playlists within CDJ". However, when I looked at the EZ-Learn

documentation, it says that currently EZ-Learn is limited to generating "IR Transmit" files only. Not for IR signal recognization.

So...

1) Can CDJ (currently) respond to a received IR command and start a playlist? If so, how do I do it?

Yes, but you need an "IR" type device file to do it, which E-Z Learn does not yet generate. I've described how to do this a few times previously on the BBS. Basically you need to find one of the device files which contains the timing info for your remote (e.g. sonyir.cde). Load this device into CDJ and start hitting your remote buttons. You will see nomatch[] responses which indicate the decoded remote codes using that timing scheme. Put those in a new device file along with their names and include the timing definition file (e.g. sonyir.cde). Take a look at something like sonytv.cde to see what an IR file should look like.

I have no reason to believe that this will lead to better IR recognition. The Xantech circuits don't demodulate the carrier and instead just pass through a thresholded AC component of the signal. There's quite a bit of noise and signal intensity dependent variability in the output. For their application, this isn't such an issue because the signal is typically just retransmitted somewhere else and the filtering is effectively done at the receiving device (e.g. your VCR). I n order to directly connect to the Slink-e bus, you will need to perform this filtering process yourself. This is where the circuits come in.
