Have had the TIVO for about 6 months, and love it. It really does change the way you watch TV - We're a busy family, and sitting down to watch a show at a certain time just doesn't happen, nor would I ever have the discipline to put in a tape and program the VCR (flashing 12:00, by the way). A convienent, easy-to-use device that saves time and gives you flexability. Cool. My 9 year old had it mastered right away. As far as recording modes, you have 3, of varying quality. The High quality is good and it is hard to tell between it and live tv, but it takes up more disk space. The low is grainier and has some artifacting, but takes up about half the disk space and will do for the news or wheel-of-fortune. I usually record the things I want to see in High, and let it record it's suggestions (another really cool thing) in low. My wife and kids don't notice the difference between modes.
