IR->Visiontouch via s-link

Has anyone had success driving a Sony Visiontouch receiver through s-link? I have the IR codes and want to use s-linke to drive a sony strde90esg through the s-link port rather than their proprietary remote. There's a workaround where some folks have crafted a Control-S to Control-A1 translator (see link). Since I've already got a s-linke, I was wondering whether I can pull this off with what I've got. Not clear from the docs/web; any help is appreciated. Thanks, Bill
