You're quite correct, it won't do the job of a PDC. You need a name server. The share level needs to be set to user so that you pick up the authentication to grant access authority to the DCOM server applette. I can't think of a way round it myself. It's the way DCOM works. It's all wrapped up with the security available with NT and its networking. The way it sees it , if you can connect to a program on someone elses machine, you might use it to do something awful! :-< So you need to be an authenticated user, which means signing on to the domain and having an authenticated connection, suddenly you're OK, your on the network and the worlds you oyster! I wouldn't go so far as to say you can do "anything" but you can expect DCOM to play ball! There are plenty of reasons why DCOM may still put up a fight though! Its a complicated process to get a program to run as a client server setup and run it over any network protocol, without any further programmer intervention, and have it pick up the security inherent in an NT network. Let me know how you get on.

Regards,

Jon.
