FYI, for others: this Slink-e stopped working because the player had "frozen up" and was causing the S-Link bus to be pulled low. The player can be reset by unplugging it from the wall (not cycling the power button). The problem was evident because the Slink-e had an orange light which went away when you unplugged it from the player.
