insert a pause between tracks in a playlist?

while I'm waiting for a comprehensive solution that does *Exactly* what I want, I want to record MDs through the analog line-in on my portable for playing in the car. It will auto-split into separate tracks if there's a few moments of silence. I don't want fading, I just want a gap. How do I insert one without having to shut of pre-queueing and get looong gaps?
