run time error 429 -help please!!!!!!!

Active X component can't create object.
I get this error message when attempting to use the PartyGuI, CDJReal, and similar programs. I suspect that I have not installed DCOM correctly, but I saw a message on the slink-e email list (which I deleted my mistake) that it might have something to do with installing a Excel 97 dll called DAO350.dll????????
I'm running Win98 edition 1 on one computer and Win98 edition 2 on the 2nd.
I'd love to run these programs. Can anyone offer some suggestions?
