Slink-e / CDJ Discussion Archive #7 CDJASP Successor: CDJReal. Beta testers wanted.Posted By: Brooks Talley <brooks@f...> Ok, I've given up on CDJASP. It's just impossible to have synchronous communications between ASP pages and the Slinkx component, and the various asynchronous hacks were unreliable and tweaky. So I've given up. But I've got a new system that offers much the same functionality. It's a VB application, but it provides a web interface that is identical to CDJASP. Additionally, it supports streaming to Real servers, complete with live updating of the clip info to reflect the playing item. That's the good news. Here's the bad news: the activeX web server control I'm using isn't free, so anyone wantint to recompile the app will need to buy the $164 control from www.snapsoft.com. The application's distribution will be binary, though, so to just use it no additional software will be required. The RealProducer activeX control is free. So far I've been using the app on Windows 2000 professional for a few days, and the web functionality seems to work fine. The Real encoding seems to die, sometimes, and the error handling code only intermittantly resumes properly. I'm looking for a few people to beta test the installer and the application. The app works fine with DCOM (that's how I'm using it). At present it only supports UDP Real encoding (so it can't go through most proxy servers). If that's a problem, I'll change it in the release. I'd like to find one or two each of win95, win98, and nt4.0 users. I'd also like people who have a real server at their disposal. Drop me a note if you're interested and I'll send you the beta pacakge (no docs yet, and, of course, all the usual beta disclaimers). -b Responses To This Message
