RME makes a really nice digital sound card called the Digi 96

Thats what we use. If you're looking for a cheap analog card that's pretty good then get one of the taiwan dime a dozen cards that use the Ensoniq PCI chipset. Creative Labs actually sells a board (SoundBlaster PCI) that uses this chipset (they couldn't manage to design there own PCI chip) but the no names are cheaper.
