I built the quick passive analog mixer as a quick way to get my four changers linked while finding and/or ordering all the parts needed for the active mixer. The passive mixer was quick and simple and did what it was intended to do. It definately drops the volume level and I found I needed and wanted an active version. Some sort of active analog mixer is the way to go if you have a number of sources to mix together. I built the active version Colby shows and it works great, if you don't need or want any variable gain controls.
