Slink-e / CDJ Discussion Archive #6 Re: Controlling CDJ From a Remote - Help!Posted By: Barry Gordon <bvgordon@d...> In Response To: Controlling CDJ From a Remote - Help! (Dan Herrmann)
If you can program, or if I get a little time to write it, you can develop a simple app that will do what you want. Here is what you need: An IR receiver that converts IR to ascii (Custom Remotes sells their IR2PC for about $40). This unit accepts standard NEC code format only. A remote capable of generating NEC format. Almost any all-in-one can do this, a Pronto can do this, etc. A PC running slink server, CDJ and with a spare com port. The app would be table driven, the entries in the table would contain the device/key codes of the NEC code, and the Slinkserv command to be sent to CDJ when this keycode is recognized. My entire home theater is based upon this type of operation. I use a Pronto and completely control CDJ (and all other equipment in the theater) through the PC using slink for IR transmission, slink transmission and com ports for rs232 transmission. The PC reads the CDJ database and displays, when the appropriate remote keys are pressed, lists of CD's or playslists to have CDJ add to its playlist section, provides full control over the CD transport via remote keys sent to the IR rcvr to the PC to slink server to CDJ. The app for what you want to do would be about a days work. I will help anyone who wants with sample code for VB. Works Flawlessly -- Now. I also have an slink IR generator that works from files similar to colby's device files and generates slink server low level command strings for sending the appropriate IR commands to devices. It is the basis of the IR section of my Home theater control app and I use it for testing for new IR driven devices. iT would be the basis of an app as I describe above. Only the source of the command sequences would have to be changed (keyboard to IR, but thats more than it appears) If any one is interested in this stuff, contact me via email. I wil send the source of the IR tester and parts of the Home Theater app for you to look at if you request. I will send the exe of the IR tester but it is large since it will be a MS setup package wih all necessary dlls and files.
