Slink-e / CDJ Discussion Archive #6 Re: DXS ProblemsPosted By: Damon Permezel <dap@d...> In Response To: DXS Problems (Jim Varrone)
I have had one for a while now. I experienced some problems where the second bank of inputs was flakey. I run thru a MSB DAC which indicates the bit rate of the data presented to it. Inputs on the first bank worked fine, and the second bank were very noisy; the reported output bitrate varied wildly, and the audio was garbage or non-existent. Since I really only needed 3 out of the 8 inputs, I just used the first bank, until finally finding the time to attempt some experiments. I swapped the two banks, and everything started working fine, although I also "discovered" the FF key on the remote, which gives some diagnostics and error rates, and incorrectly thought that only one input was working error free, although in fact once I swapped input modules, whatever problem I was having went away. All in all, I am quite happy with the unit, but suspect that there are some production kinks to be worked out -- loose screws rattling about in the case is one give away here. I would not venture that early adoption of new products is advisable to all -- one must expect the occasional glitch, and unless prepared for the possible additional inconvenience of having to work some problems out, one might find more annoyance than benefits. If you are willing to accept a first-run product, knowing that once the minor glitches are worked out, second generation units will be available which might cause you to wish you had had more patience, and are willing to accept that there may be some degree of inconvenience due to glitches, and you must have this right now, then by all means, get one, if you need it.
