Mike,
If the IR loopback does not work, then there is something wrong.
Get a Xantech test emitter. They are about $3. Wire it properly to an rj11 so you can plug it into the slink-e IR output. The schematics on the site tell you the pin outs. The test emitter puts out both IR and visible light so you can tell if it is getting pulsed with a signal. If it does not go on in the loopback test, then something is wrong.
Hold the test emitter in front of the receive window, not too close, and the IR test should pass!.
If either of the above does not work then there is something wrong with the slink-e.
If you send me your postal address by email I will make up and loan you a Xantech test emitter that I know works with my slink-e. I just ask that you return it when you are done using it.
