ADO Required?

I just downloaded and installed SYSUPDATE and SLINKE091099 on a Windows 98 system but did NOT install ADO 2.1 as recommended on the downloads page. The CDJ Library (mdb format) loaded without error and appears to be accurrate. How can I determine if ADO is present and if so, what the installed version is? Would Windows update or Office 2K have installed this for me? The system was "clean" in the sense that CDJ had never been installed before.
