The DTS audio signal on most DTS DVDs is stored in a proprietary format; it is not encoded on the PCM tracks like on DTS CDs or LaserDiscs. Older DVD players were not capable of recognizing this new format, so your DVD player likely does not recognize DTS as an optional sound track. Sony has not offered any upgrades for their older players to make them aware of this format, and the third party groups out there that will upgrade your player (which voids the warranty) charge more than the cost of getting a new player, so you may have no choice but to upgrade to a newer DVD player if you want to play DTS DVDs and hear the DTS soundtrack. You should still be able to play audio DTS CDs on your current DVD player, since the DTS signal on audio CDs is stored as a PCM track. I can do this on my "old" Sony DVP-S7000. My 2 cents,
