Actually the message from Access 2000 (attempts) to state that you may not change the schema (add/delete new columns etc.) without converting. You may choose to not convert but still proceed to change any extant values and it will save in the older format. I have successfully edited CDJ mdb's many times this way. I haven't needed to add columns yet so I'm playing it safe and not converting :)
