Slink-e / CDJ Discussion Archive #4 Re: AutomationPosted By: Jim Varrone <jvarrone@g...> In Response To: Re: Automation (Colby Boles)
Initially, I'll have a 'flip-card' catalog of the disks near each keypad. Similar to the old table-top diner jukeboxes of the 50's. (Am I dating myself??) Then I plan to use the NCD LCD 40x2 line panels at each keystation. The NCD panels allow connection of up to 16 devices on the same serial line. They are relatively inexpensive and are easily controlled by VB code. When I key in disk at the keypad the program looks for 3 (or 4 if I add more changers)keystrokes (001, 029, 200, etc.), when it receives all 3 it will then show the disk Title and Artist on the LCD panel allowing the user to then hit 'select' (or enter in another disk), which will add the disk to the playlist. I already have this working on a VB form. I guess I'll start numbering my disks by using the keyword field. However, if I choose not to use the keyword field and add a new field to the CDJ Access library for my own use, would it mess you up? Or, would you entertain adding a user-defined field to the database and allow us to modify it from within CDJ? Colby, I also noticed that I can start mutliple instances of CDJ. Could you add code that would prevent this and just make the active window CDJ if a user tries to load the program again? Thanks again.
