I think Microsoft's knowledge base article Q146120 describes what's going on. It's at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q146/1/20.asp

In order to use an OLE control only as an automation server, you need to override COleControl::IsInvokeAllowed() and return TRUE.

I think this is what's killing both ASP pages and WSH scripts that try to use SlinkX.
