- Has anybody done this? Is it even realistic?

Because CDJ is used to using a fair amount of screen real estate, it can be hard to get a lot of titles on the screen at once with a TV output. The fonts are resizeable at least.

- Can the CDJ software be controlled from the remote control/IR port of the CD player?

CDJ can be set up to do things based on remote control input. This doesn't come from the IR port of the CD Player though. It come into the Slink-e IR receiver(s).

- Is the SLINK-E software "thin"? Will it run on a cheap, low power/RAM PC?

How low power? I wouldn't say it is that thin, but it's not a major resource hog either.

- Are there any forseeable drawbacks to this plan?

I think the main issue is the user interface on the TV. CDJ is now gaining a lot of automation features which is making it easy for people to write simpler, alternative front-ends which would be more amenable to TV display.

- I am still debating wether to get a Yamaha receiver or a Sony one. Is there any benefit to owning both a receiver and CD player from Sony? Anything I can use the PC and SLINK-E to

control on the receivers (such as the STR-DE825)?

I don't remember if the DE825 is S-Link. If it is, there can definitely be advantages when controlling this device. For example, you can know exactly what state it is in, including the position of the volume knob.
