Please help w/IR setup

I've been a CDJ user and decided to run the IR cable to control volume and some other basic stuff. I have spend an hour reading slinke help in an attempt to make IR functions work. I'm stuck. Could someone please point me to the area in "help" where this is covered or give me some basic idea how to setup the volume controls.
