Cable Lengths

I'm sorry if this information is specified somewhere and I just missed it. I have my Slink-e up and running and am very happy with it. My next goal is to remove the serial running across my doorway in my living room and CD changer. Two questions.

1. How long can the serial cable be between the PC and the Slink-e?

2. How long can the cable be from the Slink-e to the back of my PC? If a longer one than that which was provided is allowed, where do you find such a thing?

Actually I have a partially related other question. I was looking into info on the Tivo and ReplayTV (check out the respective web sites) and the guy from Tivo mentioned a whisper fan that is very quiet. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing, or know if it is available for a desktop PC? Should I look for 'quiet' power supplies?
