I have to say that I had a similar problem with my 260. I've been using it on random for a few months, got slink and CDJ, and started having problems.
Initially it read all the CDs before querying against CDDB without any problems. I then tried to download all the text info to the unit, and it started eating the CDs. could it be that it wasn't waiting for the CD finish loading properly before sending down it's text, and requesting the next cd ?
Since then I've seen the problem a couple of times. What appears to be happening is that after the arm pulls the CD out of the carousel, the guide that centers the CD doesn't hit the hole in the middle. After a couple of attempts at reading the CD, the player decides that the CD isn't there, and tries to move the carousel to the next slot, which causes all sorts of nasty noises, as the disks in the carousel jam against the one in that didn't load properly.
