Slink-e / CDJ Discussion Archive #3 Re: The Ultimate Remote ControlPosted By: Barry Gordon <barry_gordon@m...> In Response To: Re: The Ultimate Remote Control (Phill Stanton)
In the world of ultimate remotes the solution is getting closer. I just picked up a Philips Pronto and it comes very close to what I consider the ultimate remote. Try their site at www.pronto.philips.web. There is another company named Custom remotes (www.customremote.com) that makes a device to plug in to a PC com port that receives IR signals from a remote (e.g. the Pronto) and converts them to a 3 byte ascii string giving the device code and the key code pressed. This device, NEC IR2PC, uses NEC coding, however since the pronto can learn store and emit any codes whatsoever making it emit NEC IR protocol should be easy. They are also working on an RF version RF2PC that will work with their remote that may also include mouse and keyboard capability) I am working on a PC program (VB) to control my whole house and home theater based opn the input device being the Pronto, and naturally the Slink for the CD changer. I use an ISA board for the normal IR and X10 emission. I will keep those interested informed, if they drop me an email line.
