Slink-e / CDJ Discussion Archive #2 Multiplexer / why buy more / SP-DIFPosted By: Brooks Talley <brooks_talley@i...> There are a couple of related threads going on here, so I thought I'd complicte things by starting one more (actually, I was hoping to consolidate). How bout this: a box with, say, 6 or 8 digital ins, and one digital out. But (assuming you're going to have to examine the data stream anyways) how bout also including a digital expander, and some means of reporting peak levels back to the slink-e? What I'm thinking here is that the unit could tell CDJ what the peak level of each track was (by simply having a single "highest level yet" register, which CDJ would clear between songs). Then, once CDJ knows that you're playing some horribly recorded CD that never touches the top two bits, it could tell the unit to expand the signal (by something as simple as just shifting left, which would only allow 6db increments, or by something more complicated). This box would kill several birds with one stone, and I know I'd pick it up if it were in the $500 range. Assuming it was meant to be used with slink-e and CDJ, it wouldn't even necessarily have to auto-sense active inputs (though that would be nice, of course). Any thoughts? Responses To This Message
