The toggle problem a hard one. Sony seems to be one of the few brands that include a power on and power off command. Of course all of my equipment isn't Sony and I wouldn't want to give up my Panasonic AG1980 SVHS decks because I use them for video editing as well as home entertainment. My solution was to purchase a "Digital BOB" (part #1622D4) from Home Automation Systems and as many probes as I needed. There are probes that will detect a number of devices by testing for active video signals, low voltage DC, 120 volt AC (works if the device has a power out plug that is switched), and even a probe that can be placed close to a TV monitor to determine if high voltage is present from the flyback transformer. I hook the output of the BOB to the parallel port of my Slinke and check the status before sending a power signal. This solution is not cheap but it is almost foolproof. -Letcher
