I am also working on a similar A/V control system. Are you outputting the video to the TV? My first approach was to take the analog video in, convert it to digital, apply it to a window, then overlay the computer graphics, then scan convert the video back to analog for output to the TV. I use the interlink mouse for my remote (I strongly recommend this product). This system worked well from a programming perspective and I was using it for several weeks. The issue was the conversion of the video from analog-digital-analog which resulted in a subtle loss of sharpness in the picture. Unfortunately, this is a major issue which is being addressed by a number of the big hardware vendors working on digital covergence and was a major topic at the Microsoft hardware conference. My solution was to genlock the analog video with the scan converted computer graphics as the primary video source. The result is pretty much what you get with a Vision Touch system or an Encore-DVD (although these apps use a chroma key and I am using a luminance key). With this as a platform, I have begun to extend beyond the basic control interface to applications like a simplified CD jukebox with better on screen graphics but a lot less functionality (local database, no mixing, no MP3). I would be interested in hearing more about your approach. Responses To This Message
