I have a 515, 220, 240. The 240 and 515 have second inputs.

I tried making them work from one audio input. Didn't have much
luck but I didn't push it too hard. Now I have 220 and 240 sharing
an input. It seems that the "master" players don't enable the
2nd input if they don't detect a "slave".

I haven't tried putting them on same s-link bus yet.

Yup, cross fading doesn't work quite right as you discovered because
the second player stops as soon as the other starts. I've settled
for non overlapping fades for now.
