Slink-e / CDJ Discussion Archive #11 Re: Accessing COM Port on Remote Computer?Posted By: Mark Myers <mmyers@d...> In Response To: Re: Accessing COM Port on Remote Computer? (Jim Bercik)
I'm certainly not an expert, but here's what happens on my machines. Access permissions are for the slinke properties security are greyed out. So I backed out of slinke properties to the general properties. On both computers under General Properties tab, I clicked on Enable Distributed Com on this computer and set Authentication to none and Impersoniation to Impersonate. Then under the Default Security tab, I clicked on Enable Remote Connection. Not exactly according to cdj instructions, but it works. I have the slinkeserv running full time on the host computer. I only have to run cdj on the remote. The cdj on my remote points to the data files on the host. In terms of extra functionality from VPN, it basically is a remote control program that gives you remote control over the entire host computer. Just like you were in front of it, but slower and in a smaller window. Good luck!
