HELP. IR problems

I just got my slink-e a couple weeks ago, and everything is great except... I was trying to set up the IR link today. I set the device to sony VCR3 and made the corresponding settings for the map. I am using a sony universal remote commander AV2100 set to VCR3 which is supposed to work with all sony products. But when i press play, nothing happens or shows up in the code view. Any help in how to diagnose the problem or what i might be doing wrong? thanks.
