How does the MP3 data get to my pre-amp

I just bought the Slink-e today and I am anxiously awaiting it's arrival. I have a large collection of MP3's on my computer and thus I am excited to finally have the ability to merge this with my CD collection in my changers. I know I am probably being really naive here but I am hoping someone can help answer my question...how does the MP3 data get to my preamp?

Do I need to connect my soundcard to one of the auxiliary inputs on my pre-amp? If this is the case, then does the Slink-e automatically use an IR command to change the source back and forth every time I move from CD to MP3 on my playlist? Is there an easier way to do this?

I use a Rotel Pre-Amp and have not seen a device driver for it in the CDJ software, so I think I am going to have to build one (which is a duating task for a new guylike me but I think I am up to the challenge).
