How can I adjust volume

When I play mp3s through my amp, the volume is lower than the CD players. Is there anyway to increase the volume for mp3s? I am using slink-e and an ir device file.I can send a volume up command when the mp3 starts.
The problem is how to send a volum down when the mp3 ends. I thought of sending a volume down when the CD starts but if the CD isn't preceeded by a mp3 the volume will keep going down.
