Slink-e / CDJ Discussion Archive #1 Re: slink-e that needs power cycling?Posted By: Colby Boles <cboles@s...> In Response To: slink-e that needs power cycling? (Arnold de Leon)
I think I have the final answer on this subject. I did some intensive testing a some weeks ago and found that there is a rare case where the Slink-e gets an error on its serial port and doesn't deal with it properly. This in turn shuts down the receiving capabilities of the Slink-e serial port and makes the Slink-e unresponsive. This problem presents itself in Slink-e ROM versions 1.0 through 2.1. In versions 2.2 and later (those currently shipping), I believe I have fixed this problem. I have had the same Slink-e on-line and running CDJ for about 3 weeks now and have never had to reset/power cycle it for any reason. I'd like to test things out for another week or so and then offer and upgraded microcontroller for anyone who needs it. I'm also looking at making an upgraded version for the Slink-e 1.0. Unfortunately, it's not like free software distribution from the website - I'll have to buy the ICs, program them and ship them out. I'm planning on it costing less than $20 with shipping in the US. It should be fairly cheap overseas as well since I will just use lower cost shipping services like the USPS. Instead of shipping these out on an individual basis, I'd like to do it as one big batch, so if you'd like to send me an email indicate you'd like to upgrade, I'll put you in a database so that when I'm ready to go with the IC's, you'll receive one. At that time, I'll put some instructions on the site as to how to go about replacing it - which is fairly simple. I'm sorry it has taken so long for me to address this problem. I was having a very hard time making it occur in my test environment and I didn't want to claim that I had fixed it until I was really sure. Colby Responses To This Message
