The S-Linke only has hardwire control for Sony S-Link devices (also a control-S jack, but I've not used that). For other brands of hardware, you have to use IR control (e.g. the same type of control your remote for that hardware uses). You do this by having the S-Linke learn the IR command from your original remote, then having it send those commands under program control, effectively letting you control your non-Sony hardware from your computer.

Be warned that the only sophisticated "end user" packaged software with the S-Linke is CDJ, a CD jukebox program designed to control Sony CD jukeboxes via the hardwire Sony S-Link protocol. If you want to do much IR stuff with S-Linke, you need to write your own software (plenty of software libraries are provided to do that). There are some included simple programs (with source code) that demonstrate using S-Linke's IR facilities, but they don't do too much other than demonstrate.
